My Therapeutic Approaches

Person-Centred Therapy

Feeling disconnected from yourself or struggling to find your authentic self?

Person-centred therapy offers a supportive space for you to explore your inner world and discover your true potential. This approach believes in your inherent ability to understand and address your challenges.

Through person-centred therapy, you can develop a deeper connection with yourself, enhancing your self-esteem and self-acceptance. By fostering a genuine and empathetic relationship with your therapist, you’ll gain the confidence to make choices that align with your values and aspirations. This therapy empowers you to become the best version of yourself.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

Feeling stuck in a problem or looking for a quick path to improvement?

Solution-focused brief therapy might be the right fit. This approach focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on the problem itself. It’s about identifying what’s working and building on those strengths to create positive change.

With solution-focused therapy, you’ll discover your own abilities to create the life you want. By setting clear goals and exploring what’s already working, you’ll gain the confidence and tools to overcome challenges and achieve lasting results.

Expressive Art Therapy

Finding it difficult to put your feelings into words?

Expressive Art Therapy might be the answer. This unique approach combines art and therapy to help you explore and understand your emotions. By engaging in creative activities like painting, drawing, sculpting, or writing, you can uncover hidden thoughts and feelings.

Expressive Art Therapy helps you:

  • Express yourself in a non-verbal way
  • Process emotions and experiences
  • Increase self-awareness and understanding
  • Develop new coping strategies

Whether you consider yourself artistic or not, anyone can benefit from the therapeutic power of creative expression.

Gayana Vishwanath answers your questions

  • What advice would you give to someone considering therapy for the first time?

If you’re considering therapy for the first time, it’s important to understand that feeling uncomfortable at times is a natural part of the process and is often necessary for meaningful change. However, you will never be pushed to be vulnerable before you’re ready. It’s perfectly okay to take things step by step. As your therapist, I will support you throughout your journey while gently encouraging growth and self-discovery.

  • What is a common misconception about therapy that you’d like to clarify?

A common misconception about therapy is that it’s only for those who are weak or unable to handle their problems on their own. In reality, therapy is a sign of strength and courage. It takes self-awareness and bravery to acknowledge the need for support and to actively engage in the process of personal growth and healing.

  • How do you handle humour in therapy sessions?

Using humour in therapy is like watching a Bollywood movie: it might not solve all your problems, but it sure helps lighten the mood. Humour can be a wonderful way to break the ice and create a more comfortable atmosphere, making it easier to explore challenging topics and make progress in therapy.

  • What do you do to create a safe and supportive space for clients in therapy?

I aim to create a space where clients feel safe to explore challenges, express themselves authentically, and achieve their therapeutic goals by being fully present with each individual, continuously working to unlearn my personal biases, and ensuring I approach each client with genuine openness and empathy.

  • How do you approach building trust with clients who may be hesitant to open up?

Firstly, it’s completely natural to feel hesitant about opening up because being vulnerable can be challenging. When I notice a client’s hesitation, I tell them it’s okay if they don’t want to talk about it now and whenever they do want to share, I’ll be here to listen attentively without any judgement.

  • What do you do to ensure your own well-being and avoid burnout?

Music, movement, art, occasional treks to connect with nature and of course a shoutout to my therapist for helping me thrive

  • What is a recent book or resource you’ve found helpful for your clients (or yourself) and why?

“Am I There Yet?” by Mari Andrew. Her book is a collection of essays and illustrations that explore themes such as resilience, self-acceptance, and finding meaning in life’s ups and downs.”Am I There Yet?” by Mari Andrew. • Which quotes do you find yourself often sharing with clients?

The path to change is uncomfortable but you can make the journey easier by being kind to yourself.
