Talk Talk and Talk as openly as you can about whatever is on your mind, without editing yourself. It’s interesting how our minds filter or censor certain thoughts and allow others to surface. Sometimes, the things we hold back are the ones that could potentially lead to deeper connection or understanding.
Most people assume therapists give advice but that’s not how therapy works. In the long run, advice is rarely helpful. Instead of advice, your therapist will help you to Make better choices on your own.
I’ll first acknowledge it and then try to assess the overall tone, that is it a way to deflect from something or a genuine expression of their personality. Moreover, I’ll try to explore the underlying meaning and will address it.
I show genuine concern towards my patient which helps me to understand their perspective and validate their feelings. Moreover making them feel comfortable for them to have open communication. In addition to that focusing on collaboration ensuring they feel an active participant in their own healing.
I tend to use a lot of metaphors usually with hesitant clients where I tend to acknowledge their discomfort with vulnerability and normalize their resistance. Moreover clearly outlining the therapeutic process, my role fosters predictability and building and developing confidence in the therapeutic journey.
I tend to regularly seek consultation and feedback from my professors and supervisors to ensure effectiveness and avoid compassion fatigue.
