There are so many! But if I had to choose one, I’d pick this- as your therapist, I will not be providing an outright solution to your problems. However, we will sit and co-create a detailed strategy for you based on what you think is appropriate. This way, you have greater agency over your life choices and decisions and there is someone to give you a bird’s eye view of anything you might have missed.

A simple process I like to call the therapeutic frame- its layered and nuanced, tailored and crafted specifically to fit my patients, exactly how they need it. I employ multiple strategies (like affirmations, mirroring, attunement, containment among others) to ensure our therapeutic hour is one that harbours safety and constant support.
I give them time and offer a space that is consistent, safe and approachable. In my experience, these are the basic ingredients of building trust.
I follow grounding and breathing exercises to combat burnout. Journaling and meditation also help!
This beautiful book by Jerry Pinto, called Em and the Big Hoom which describes in great detail the struggles of a family dealing with the diagnosis of their mother’s bipolar disorder. This is my choice because despite the beautiful portrayal of chaos (which is persuasive in its character precision) it is the mundane everyday living and the lived reality that strikes me every time. It helps me in understanding that there is in fact nothing greater than the psychic reality we hold in ourselves.
